A puppy and a pop bottle...

I wanted to take the time to blog about our newest family member.
Millie is a black lab/border collie mix. We got her from the Humane Society.
We were devastated to hear that out little Sophie girl was too old and sick to do anything and we had to put her to sleep. For awhile the mood around our house was so sickeningly sad that we finally couldn't take it anymore.
So a puppy was brought into our home.
Now when we first brought Millie home and showed the ever so depressed Mary her new sister... She looked at us like, "Are you serious?? That thing wants to play with me... No." This went on for a short while until Mary decided it wasn't bad having the company of a little one around. She started to play with Millie and now they have become great cuddle buddies. That is if Millie decides that Mary's face is not a chair for her. Lately she has a tendency to sit on her head.
Having to go through potty training all over again was something I was not ready for, I remember vaguely doing it with Sophie but I was so young myself that my parents did all of the work. With Millie we decided to use the pee pad technique. These are incredibly funny to me for some reason. Having watch Millie pee successfully on the pads we were concerned she would take to peeing on only them and not outside...So we trained her to go to the back door where eventually now she is whining to go out. Yay.
Millie has one of the best personalities I have ever seen for a dog... She gives you these facial expressions that you can't help but laugh at. We bought her millions of toys to play with and have learned that if it is made of any kind of plastic, it will be chewed up within minutes of her having it.
Funny thing is, it seems the toy she loves the most is an empty pop bottle. So I ask why are we wasting our money when really all we need are things around the house. It seems like every time we play fetch with her she always brings back something different. You throw a ball and what you get in return is a shoe, a teddy bear, a golf ball, or a sock. Just some of the many fun things you get to see.
Now I am not one for feeding a dog "people" food but to see her little face begging for a little something is so hard not to give in. She knows what she is doing...She KNOWS. She is smart enough to sit there and tilt her head to the side as if to say, "I'm so cute and starving."
Anyway she has brought much needed joy to the family and we love her very much.
I just wanted to share that.
I don't know why.
=D
